Safer Internet Day is an important day in the digital world. This day, organised by the European Commission, will take place on 5 February 2019 and aims to raise awareness of the dangers of the Internet for people of all ages. Today we live, learn and work in a world where we have the largest library of all time, the internet.
This brings us great benefits and often makes our lives and learning easier. The many search engines, knowledge platforms and communication tools give us access to information in a fraction of the time that it takes using other sources. All this information is available today. But on the internet, we also find other things, such as games or social media in which a lot of data about our friends, acquaintances or family is shared.
But often we forget the other side of the coin. There are also people on the Internet who have bad intentions and for whom our data is important and valuable. Just think of a bank card and PIN code. If you can get hold of these, it’s easy to gain access to a person’s bank account. Or that photo, which was taken by a friend at a time when you’d rather not have your photo taken.
This day wants to draw attention to this. By being more attentive and paying more attention to what you do and how you do it, you can prevent a lot. I, PaSMaN, would like to work with you on this as well. Our website can help you with tips on how to be more secure and more cautious when using the fantastic internet.
